The first step
Drop me a message to arrange an initial assessment session. This session is an opportunity for us to meet and get to know each other.
During our time together we will explore what has brought you to counselling and your goals. I will take time to answer your questions and by the end of the session you will have all you need to decide if I’m the right counsellor for you.
Frequently asked questions and answers
Not necessarily, I have had many clients who book a 60 min assessment first as they prefer to get straight into it. If you prefer to skip the 10 min call, just drop me an email and we can book straight in. kaya@kayaplatt.com or use the contact form
Counselling remotely has been growing in popularity for years and is a safe alternative to face-to-face work. I am grateful for this technology as it means I can work with people all over the world.
To work online together, I ask you have:
- Access to a quite space where you feel safe and won’t be disturbed or overheard
- Good internet connection
I offer sessions either online via Zoom, telephone sessions or face-to-face from a quiet, private space in Bushey. Many clients choose online sessions for flexibility, while others prefer in-person, it’s entirely up to you.
All offer convenient access to services like trauma therapy, anxiety counselling, and more throughout the UK and worldwide.
Our first session is a chance for us to meet and see if we’re a good fit. You don’t need to prepare anything — just come as you are. There is no agenda. We’ll talk about what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share everything all at once.
Our first session is a chance for us to get to know one another. We’ll explore what’s brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share everything right away—we’ll go at your pace. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see how you feel in the space. Therapy works best when there’s a sense of connection and trust, so this first meeting is all about exploring whether we’re the right fit.
Not at all. Many people come to therapy feeling low, anxious or just not quite themselves — without knowing exactly why. Depression and anxiety are often symptoms of something deeper. Therapy helps us explore the root causes, so you can better understand yourself and feel more at ease.
That’s completely okay, it’s very common. You don’t need to have the right words. My job is to support you, gently and patiently, even if you’re not sure where to begin. We go at your pace. You do not have to prepare or bring anything.
Sessions are weekly, and when possible the same day and time each week. Regularity helps build a sense of safety and momentum in the work.
That really depends on you and what you’re hoping to explore. Some clients come for a few months, others for longer. We can discuss this together and review as we go. There’s no fixed commitment.
No. If you feel like something isn’t right, that you’re not yourself and the descriptions on the work with me pages resonate with you in some way, then therapy with me can make all the difference to your life. If you have a diagnosis of depression or anxiety, that is fine too. Though you can talk to your GP, it isn’t necessary before working with me. Get in touch for a free 10 minute initial call to find out more.
The BACP stands for The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. It is one of the largest membership organisations for counsellors in the UK. They provide an Ethical Framework for counsellors to adhere to in practice and are there to ensure that I work ethically and professionally. Their website has some useful information and can be found here: www.bacp.co.uk. You can also check that I’m registered with them here: https://www.bacp.co.uk/search/Register, simply type my name in the search field.
Yes. What you share in therapy stays private. There are a few legal exceptions, for example, if there’s a serious risk of harm, but we’ll talk through all of this clearly in our first session.
If something here has resonated with you and you’re ready to take the next step, I invite you to book a free 10-minute call to see if we’re a good fit.
